How to Rearrange Pages in a PDF

Need to move page 5 to the front, or put your appendix before the main body? Reordering PDF pages takes seconds with the right tool — no Acrobat required.

Why You'd Need to Reorder PDF Pages

The most common scenario: you received a multi-page scan where the pages are in the wrong order, or you merged several PDFs and the sequence is off. Another frequent case is moving a cover page or signature page to the front of a document. Whatever the reason, reordering should be quick and lossless — no re-rendering, no quality loss.

Reorder vs. Organize — What's the Difference?

Our tool has two options for rearranging pages. The Reorder tool shows your pages as numbered cards that you drag into a new sequence — ideal when you know exactly where each page should go. The Organize tool gives you a thumbnail grid view where you can drag, rotate, and delete pages in one place — better for larger documents where you need visual reference.

  • Use Reorder for quick page-order fixes on smaller documents
  • Use Organize for full restructuring with thumbnails on larger PDFs
  • Both tools are non-destructive — the original file isn't changed until you download

Step-by-Step: Reorder PDF Pages

1. Open the Reorder Pages tool and upload your PDF. 2. Your pages appear as numbered cards in their current order. 3. Drag any card to a new position — the others shift automatically. 4. Repeat until the order looks right. 5. Click Apply Order and download the reordered PDF.

Tips for Large Documents

If you're reordering a document with 50+ pages, the thumbnail Organize view is more efficient. You can also select multiple pages and move them as a group by holding Shift. For very large reorders (e.g., reversing the order of a 100-page scan), it's faster to use the Organize tool's batch select and drag approach.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does reordering change any page content?+

No. The tool changes the sequence in which pages appear in the file without touching their content, fonts, images, or annotations.

Can I undo a reorder?+

While you're in the tool you can drag pages back to their original position. Once you download the result, you'd need to reorder again manually, so keep a copy of the original if you may need to revert.

Does this work on password-protected PDFs?+

Many encrypted PDFs can be opened for viewing and manipulation. If the PDF requires a password to open, you'll need to remove the restriction first using the Unlock PDF tool.
